Das Sempacher Bier – from Sempach for Sempach
1386 Brauerei GmbH is a microbrewery founded in 2018 in Sempach (Switzerland) that brews local craft beers under the label «1386 – Das Sempacher Bier», shortly after the historic year of the Battle of Sempach. The brewery grew out of a home brewery run by Markus Brechbühl and is carried by four Sempach friends – Marco Sieber, Martin Dubach, Stefan Schürch and Markus Brechbühl – as well as a brotherhood of 163 «1386 journeymen», who contributed around 30'000 francs in start-up capital. The beer is brewed from water, malt, hops and yeast in a roughly seven-hour process; each brewing evening yields 200 litres, and about seven weeks lie between the brew and the bottle ready for consumption. Unfiltered filling reflects the honesty of a small manufactory: once a batch is sold out, the principle of natural scarcity applies. Sales are through local innkeepers such as the Wirtschaft zur Schlacht and the Sempre as well as direct from the loading ramp at Hubelstrasse in Sempach.
