About Sandvik Coromant

Sandvik Coromant is a Swedish manufacturer of cutting tools and tooling solutions for metalworking, headquartered in Sandviken. The company was founded in 1942 for the production of carbide tools and has since developed indexable inserts, solid round tools, toolholders and vibration-damping tools (Silent Tools) for turning, milling, drilling, reaming, threading as well as parting and grooving. The carbide indexable inserts are manufactured at the Gimo site, which was named a Lighthouse factory for Industry 4.0 by the World Economic Forum in 2019. The portfolio also includes digital solutions such as the CoroPlus software for tool and cutting data recommendations as well as customised tools (Tailor Made). With around 8,000 employees, over 1,700 patents and a presence in more than 150 countries, Sandvik Coromant is part of the Sandvik Machining Solutions business area of the Sandvik Group. Through a worldwide network of Sandvik Coromant Centers, including Renningen in Germany, the company offers training, demonstrations and consulting on process optimisation.

Materials and Coating Technologies

HM

Carbide (Hard Metal)

Base material of the indexable inserts; in steel-turning inserts, sometimes more than 65 % recycled material is used.

GC

Gamma Coating (GC)

Heat-resistant coating grades for inserts, introduced in 1969.

Inveio

Inveio Coating Technology

Atomically controlled, densely packed and thermally protected coating for higher hardness, introduced in 2013.
