Wine and brandies from the Black Forest
Alde Gott Winzer Schwarzwald eG was founded in 1948 in Sasbachwalden in the Ortenau region and belongs to the Baden wine-growing region. The cooperative comprises 380 winegrowers who cultivate 266 hectares of vines; the annual harvest is around 1.8 million litres of wine, with storage capacity of 5 million litres. The focus of cultivation is Pinot Noir with about 55 percent of the vineyard area, complemented by Pinot Gris, Riesling and Müller-Thurgau as well as smaller parcels of Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Scheurebe and Gewürztraminer. The vines grow on weathered granite soils at elevations of 180 to 800 metres on the western slope of the Hornisgrinde. The sister organisation Alde Gott Edelbrände Schwarzwald eG, with 329 members, has been marketing brandies from local fruit since 1970; the fruit is distilled in home distilleries and matured and refined for several years at the cooperative; roughly 180,000 litres of 100-percent alcohol are sold annually. Alde Gott Genusswelt GmbH rounds off the offering with wine experiences, wine tastings, seminars, a wine bar and sales.
