About the Rebbau Spiez Genossenschaft
The Alpine Weinkultur Genossenschaft (Rebbau Spiez Genossenschaft) cultivates vineyards on the steep slopes above Lake Thun and produces alpine character wines. The wine cellar is located within the walls of Spiez Castle, whose oldest parts date back to the 10th century. Climate-adapted grape varieties are grown; the work in the vineyard follows ecological principles: buffer areas, promotion of biodiversity, avoidance of insecticides and herbicides, and – wherever possible – work according to BIO (organic) guidelines. In the cellar, the cooperative relies on spontaneous fermentation, minimal intervention and the avoidance of unnecessary filtration. The portfolio includes lake, mountain and summit wines as well as non-alcoholic beverages and spirits. The team consists of ten full-time and part-time positions and has been led by Ursula Irion since 2013. Tastings, an adventure trail, sponsorships and the rental of a vineyard house are also offered.
