Enjoyment from Tradition

Altenberger Genuss GmbH operates a spirits manufactory in Altenberg in the Osterzgebirge region that has been producing herbal spirits since 1842. Its namesake and product core is the ALTENBERGER Gebirgsbitter, an aromatic semi-bitter based on a family recipe of 33 herbs, roots and berries. The portfolio also includes the ALTENBERGER Bitter with 22 herbal extracts, the sugar-free root brandy ALTENBERGER Kalmus, and the rowan berry liqueur made from extracts of the rowan tree. Production is carried out by hand in the company's own historical aging cellar, including an aging period of almost one year in earthenware casks; the recipes are continued under strict secrecy. Distribution takes place via the shop with manufactory at Rathausstraße, an online shop with worldwide shipping, and guided tours. Since 2022, the manufactory has been run by Thomas Röpke in the sixth generation.
