About AKHD Frankfurt/Rhein-Main
The Ambulanter Kinder- und Jugendhospizdienst Frankfurt/Rhein-Main (AKHD) is an outpatient service of the Deutscher Kinderhospizverein e.V. It accompanies children, adolescents and young adults with a life-shortening or life-threatening illness and their families - from diagnosis, through life, during dying and beyond death. The accompaniment is free of charge and tailored to the individual needs of the families: in consultation with the family, it supports and relieves the ill child, siblings or parents in everyday life. The team consists of five full-time employees (three coordination specialists, two staff members for public relations) as well as around 75 volunteer companions who have completed a qualified preparation course. Currently around 40 families are being supported; in addition, mothers' weekends and family outings provide relief. The service is 75% funded by donations and is responsible for children's hospice work in Frankfurt, the City and District of Offenbach and the Main-Taunus district. The office is located at Hanauer Landstraße 48 in Frankfurt am Main.
