Highly reliable power electronics for space and defence
APCON AeroSpace & Defence GmbH, based in Neubiberg near Munich, specialises in the development and manufacturing of custom, highly reliable power supplies and electronics for military aviation, space and defence applications. Founded in 1994 as a spin-off of the AIRBUS-DS power supply division (formerly EADS / Astrium / DASA / MBB), the company performs all performance steps in-house: circuit design and PCB layout (CAE), mechanical structure design (CAD), analyses and simulations (PSpice, WCA, FMECA, MTBF, FEM, Worst Case, Thermal) as well as complete in-house manufacturing of electronic and mechanical components including pick-and-place assembly. In addition, APCON manufactures transformers, inductors and storage coils and develops custom test software and test hardware (EGSE) with automated in-house testing to Space and MIL standards (e.g. EMC, ESCC). Key focus areas are satellite payload power supplies, radio frequency generators (RFG60–1000 watt) for RIT ion thrusters and power electronics (PSU, PSCU, PPU) for electric satellite propulsion. Customers include Airbus, ArianeGroup, Boeing, DLR, ESA/ESTEC and Thales Alenia Space; over 230 space power supplies are active in orbit.
