About apl
APL AG (all purpose lighting) was founded in 2021 in Mülheim an der Ruhr by six founders with many years of experience in the lighting industry. The company develops and distributes a modular, miniaturized LED luminaire system: The LTwo® light source with a 16 mm housing diameter is based on the T5 form factor and is available in six lengths (142 to 1,402 mm), five light colors (2,700–5,000 K, CRI >90), twelve precision optics, as well as in constant-current and constant-voltage versions. Building on this, apl offers ready-made luminaires with the Lumami® family (Desk, Wall, Pendant, Ceiling, Track, Downlight), an extensive range of accessories including an IP67 outdoor version, as well as 48V power supplies and controls (including DALI, Casambi). Applications range from Home/Living to architecture, retail, office, health and hotel to art and museum lighting. The system is designed for OEM manufacturing and private labeling; from 2026 distribution is via a distribution partnership with the Zumtobel Group focusing on Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The headquarters is in Mülheim an der Ruhr; for the USA, Canada and Mexico, APL Inc. in Lockport, NY, is responsible.
