About Astyx MPS
Astyx MPS GmbH, based in Ottobrunn near Munich, develops, manufactures and distributes innovative microwave position sensors for hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders. A single sensor integrated into the cylinder measures the position and velocity of the piston to millimeter accuracy – without moving mechanical components and without costly machining of the hydraulic system. The measuring principle uses electromagnetic waves that are coupled into the cylinder via a proprietary antenna, reflected by the piston, and evaluated from the phase shift. Using proprietary software, the sensors can be remotely calibrated, read out and updated over-the-air (OTA); they also provide usage and condition data such as pressure and temperature peaks for preventive maintenance. The sensors are suitable for mobile and stationary applications such as forklifts, container handlers, construction machinery and lifting platforms; for the offshore sector (riser tensioner cylinders), an ATEX Zone 1 certified sensor with diameters from 360 to 560 mm is available. At its Ottobrunn site, the company has a modern laboratory and its own production facility; in North America, the business is managed through Verve MPS in Cary (North Carolina).
