About Auroco
Auroco GmbH, based in Munich (Kistlerhofstraße 70, Building 188, 81379 Munich), was founded in 2011 by Jan Philipp Lohse and Florian Widmesser. Its purpose was the development, manufacturing and distribution of mechatronic rope safety technology. The core product EPIC (Electronic Partner for Individual Climbing) was the first fully automatic climbing belay system that controlled lead climbing, belaying and rappelling mechatronically via a base station and a remote control worn by the climber with an acceleration sensor: in the event of a detected fall, the braking signal is transmitted within 30 milliseconds, and the rope brake engages after at most one meter. The device was offered in an industrial version for work at height on industrial structures, towers, masts and roofs, and was also positioned for sport climbing; in 2015, 100 units of the industrial version were sold to Skylotec. Suppliers and development partners came predominantly from Munich and the surrounding area. In 2014, the belay system was certified by DEKRA. As of 26.07.2018 the company was in liquidation and was deleted on 20.07.2020; since then the domain auroco.de has been for sale.
