History
- 1892
The Aschinger brothers build the headquarters of their company, which supplied pea soup and bread rolls, on the site; in the 1920s it employed 4,000 people.
- 1947
VEB BAKO: bread and roll production for East Berlin, from which the BACKFABRIK derives its name.
- 1990
Horst Schießer turns the factory into "Cityback" and continues food production; later closure.
- 1997
Three years of interim use as an off-location with a casino, Cookies, workshops and a skate ramp.
- 2000
Hargen M. Bartels acquires the site with R.E.M.M.; architects Marc Kocher, Corni Bartels and Gerald Tritscher design the transformation.
