Family & History
The family wine estate Balthasar Ress was founded in 1870 by Balthasar Ress in Hattenheim in the Rheingau as an inn with a wine tavern and is now run by the fifth generation. The organically certified VDP wine estate cultivates around 55 hectares of vineyards, of which about 90 percent Riesling, 8 percent Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder) and 2 percent Pinot Blanc; around 70 percent of the vineyard area is classified as VDP.GROSSE LAGE or VDP.ERSTE LAGE. The vines are cultivated without chemical herbicides or pesticides, complemented by fungus-resistant grape varieties such as Solaris and Souvignier Gris. In addition to still and sparkling wine production, the company produces the Ventreprise Gin («Balthasar's Eleven»). Beyond wine production, the company operates estate taverns, vinotheks and wine bars in Hattenheim, Wiesbaden and Frankfurt, the wineBANK as a franchise concept, events, wine tastings as well as exports. The registered office is located at Rheinallee 7 in Eltville-Hattenheim; export sales are handled via Veritable Wines & Estates.
