About Barenberg Special Materials
Barenberg Special Materials GmbH (BSM) was founded in 2015 in Salzgitter and specializes in ultra-high-temperature process engineering for the production of refractory metal melts. The company produces eutectic fused tungsten carbide (WC/W2C) through melting, quenching, crushing and sieving, as well as recycled tungsten metal powders (Up-Cycling WMP) from tungsten production residues, which are used as welding filler. Since 2016, BSM has also been the European sales office for tungsten metals and tungsten carbides from TaeguTec (South Korea), including consignment stock and local application engineering. The microreactor-based high-temperature process completed in 2023 enables climate-neutral production of "green" refractory metal melts and new material systems. WSC powders are used for wear protection coatings (PTA, laser cladding), which are implemented via partner service providers, e.g. for screw conveyors, fans, wear plates, excavator teeth and drill bits for oil/gas exploration and geothermal energy. In addition to production and distribution, BSM offers contract research and product development.

Materials and Processes
Fused Tungsten Carbide (WC/W2C, eutectic)
Eutectic mixture of approx. 20–27 wt.% WC and W2C lamellae; extremely wear-resistant for coatings and drill bits.
Ditungsten Carbide
Main phase (70–80%) of fused tungsten carbide with a fine lamellar pearlite-like structure.
Tungsten Carbide
Carbide phase (20–30%) of the fused carbide; also available as TaeguTec powder.
Tungsten Metal Powder (Up-Cycling)
Purity min. 99.5% W (typically >99.8%), processed from production residues as welding filler.
TaeguTec Tungsten Metal Powder (WP 04–WP 350)
Tungsten powders with particle sizes of 0.4–40 µm for cemented carbide, heavy alloy, diamond tools and more.
TaeguTec Tungsten Carbide Powder (WC 04–WC 350H)
Tungsten carbide powders of various particle sizes, some high-temperature sintered (H types).
Metallic Binders (Nickel, Cobalt, Iron)
Binder phase with which WSC is mixed for coating applications such as PTA or laser cladding.
