About Baumit

Baumit is an Austrian manufacturer of building materials headquartered in Wopfing (Waldegg), Lower Austria. The brand was founded in 1988 by Dieter Kern (wup) and Friedrich Schmid (Wopfinger Stein- und Kalkwerke) and traces back to a lime kiln first mentioned in 1810. The value chain includes lime production (Maerz three-shaft lime kiln, 2-chamber lime kiln), cement manufacturing, mechanical crushing of limestone, and the production of dry mortar (since 1970) and wet plaster (since 2002). The portfolio comprises external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS) with EPS and mineral wool, facade plasters, interior plasters, floor coating systems (Baumacol) and, since 2022, 3D-printed concrete components (BauMinator). The research focus is the VIVA Research Park founded in 2014 in Wopfing, Europe's largest research facility for comparative building material studies. Baumit is represented with subsidiaries in around 21 European countries and belongs to Schmid Industrieholding with more than 5,700 employees in about 100 companies.
