About the Bergkapelle
The Bergkapelle St. Ingbert e.V. von 1839 is a wind orchestra from St. Ingbert in the Saarland and is one of the oldest mining bands in Germany. It emerged from the music band of the flour fund of the St. Ingbert mine and was founded in 1839 on the occasion of the presentation of a miners' banner to the St. Ingbert miners' guild. Until the mine's closure in 1959, the orchestra was staffed by miners, after which the support association founded in 1960 took over the uniforms and instruments. The repertoire includes march music, polkas, folk music, symphonic brass music, pop music and musical arrangements as well as big band jazz. The band performs in the traditional miners' uniform with black jacket, golden fringes and pit hat. The rehearsal venue has been the Rischbachstollen in St. Ingbert since 2000; in addition, the association runs its own youth training program from early musical education up to the Great Orchestra.
