About Bergquell-Brauerei Löbau
Bergquell-Brauerei Löbau GmbH is a brewery in Löbau in eastern Saxony, whose roots date back to 1846. Its best-known product is Lausitzer Porter, brewed since 1999 and distributed throughout Germany. The product range includes, alongside Porter variants such as Cherry Porter, Strawberry Porter and Porter+Punsch, also Bergquell Pilsner, Lausitzer Hefe-Weizen, Bergquell Hell, Gold, Keller-Urtyp and seasonal beers such as Bergbock and Festbier. After the end of in-house brewing in 1989 and a new beginning, the new brewery in the Löbau-West industrial estate was inaugurated in 1996; under managing director Steffen Dittmar, output rose from 7,000 hl (1999) to around 180,000–200,000 hl per year. The brewery operates with modern filling systems (33,000 bottles/h), brewhouse heat recovery (EquiTherm, savings of approx. 250,000 kWh per year) and exclusively returnable containers. Quality is monitored by an in-house laboratory; the company meets the requirements of the IFS Food standard.
