About Berlin Cosmetics
Berlin Cosmetics GmbH & Co. KG was a cosmetics manufacturer based in Berlin. The company emerged from the lead operation of the VEB Kosmetik-Kombinat Berlin founded in 1981, which, under the name VEB Berlin Kosmetik, held a monopoly on cosmetic products in the GDR with around 1100 employees and covered about 95 percent of the corresponding domestic retail sales. After the dissolution of the combine in 1990, the operation was transferred to Berlin Kosmetik GmbH and privatized; the company focused on a combination of contract manufacturing and the development of its own products. Taken over in 1997 after insolvency by Rolf Giesen and renamed Berlin Cosmetics, the Berlin plant was closed in 2006. Since then, the brands have been used by the MAXIM Markenprodukte Group.
