About Bernhard Jacob
Bernhard Jacob GmbH was founded in 1950 in Völklingen-Ludweiler and remains family-owned to this day. Originally focused on sand extraction and the production of silicosis-safe blasting abrasives, the company developed—via the supply of moulding sands to the iron and steel industry—into a specialist provider of refractory building materials. The portfolio includes monolithically shaped components, unshaped refractory products such as ladle covering compounds, gunning masses, refractory concretes and ramming masses, as well as products for converters, electric furnaces, casting, transport and treatment ladles, RH units, torpedo ladles and tundish runners. Production takes place at the Völklingen site on fully electronically controlled production systems, complemented by an in-house milling and classification plant for raw material preparation and large raw material storage capacities. Product development is carried out jointly with customers, supported by an in-house laboratory that controls and monitors the entire manufacturing process. The group of companies includes Jafesa GmbH (mould making, plant engineering, maintenance) and Bernhard Jacob Lux S.A. (blast furnace plants and, since 2020, foundries).

Materials & Processes
Moulding sand
Supply product through which the first contacts with the iron and steel industry arose from the 1950s onwards.
Specialty sands for the steelworks sector
Specialty sands for applications in the steelworks, produced since 1972.
Blasting abrasives / quartz sands
Silicosis-safe blasting abrasives and quartz sands formed the core of early production.
JACOCAST – vibration casting masses
Lining of the hearth, pressure siphon, runner, forehearth of the cupola furnace as well as ladles and slag pots.
JACOFLOW – self-flowing casting masses
Enable simplified and uncomplicated installation of aggregates.
JACORAM – semi-plastic ramming masses
For basic linings as well as cold and hot repairs, with increased resistance to slags and metals.
JACOGUN – gunning masses
For maintaining the refractory lining, applicable using both conventional gunning and plastic application methods.
JACOVIB – dry vibration masses
For the lining of induction crucible and induction channel furnaces.
