About the workshop
bernhardt – Glasmalerei und Kunstglaserei e.K. was a craft workshop in Ravensburg, founded in 1941, which ceased operations after 84 years on 24 July 2025 after no successor could be found. The company produced art glazing and stained glass in both traditional and modern techniques, including leaded glazing, cabinet panes with chasing/engraving, flat glass decoration and free-form glass cutting. In addition to new production, the workshop focused on restoring old leaded panels, especially in the field of heritage conservation. The techniques mastered included glass etching, screen printing on glass, sandblasting, kiln-firing of paint and the installation of glazing. Materials included coloured glass, flat glass, lead cames for leaded panels and kiln-firable glass paints. In 2001, Hans-Rainer Bernhardt and Guido Andelfinger published the specialist book 'Working with Coloured Glass' with the Kunstverlag Weingarten publishing house, documenting the techniques of leaded glazing and stained glass for the next generation of glaziers. In 2011, master stained-glass artist Guido Andelfinger took over the company and continued to run it together with employee Horst Berger.
