BETEK Sicherheitstechnik GmbH, based in Groß-Zimmern, manufactures the SPRAY CONTROL spray protection system – stainless steel cuffs (Flange Guards) that are mounted around flange connections and, in the event of gasket failure, divert escaping media in a depressurized manner downward. The cuffs are made from stainless steel 1.4404 (ASTM 316) with a 0.5 mm wall thickness; the closure is made of 1.4404 and the spring of 1.4310. Unlike plastic cuffs, the stainless steel does not become brittle; use is possible at up to 400 °C continuous load and it is UV-resistant. The cuffs feature an internal decompression mesh and a buckle closure for quick installation. The product range includes sizes according to DIN (PN6 to PN100) and ANSI (150–600 lbs) as well as custom-made products for other diameters and for square and oval flanges. A variant with equipotential bonding is approved for Ex zones. Customers include the chemical and petrochemical industries, plant engineering and the maritime sector (SOLAS/DNV).

Quality & Certification

SPRAY Control was tested in the TREO environmental simulation laboratory in Hamburg at 100, 200 and 300 bar for 10 minutes each without wear, deformation or defects. The system is DNV Type Approval certified (SOLAS 74, Reg. II-2/4-2.2.5.3, TAP0000269 Rev. 1, valid until 2030) and the variant with equipotential bonding has been approved by TÜV Hessen for Ex zones 1, 2, 21 and 22.
