About Biopetrol Industries
Biopetrol Industries AG was a Swiss energy group headquartered in Baar (canton of Zug) that produced, traded and distributed biodiesel and pharmaceutical glycerine on the national and international market. The company was one of the larger biodiesel producers in Europe and, according to its own statements, the largest producer of pharmaceutical glycerine in Europe and the second largest worldwide. The Rotterdam and Rostock plants had an annual capacity of around 1,000,000 tonnes of biodiesel and 90,000 tonnes of pharmaceutical glycerine; in 2008 the Schwarzheide and Rostock sites had capacities of around 350,000 t of biodiesel and 30,000 t of glycerine available. Biopetrol Industries AG was founded in 2005 as a public limited company and in November 2005 was listed on the Open Market of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. From the end of 2009, the Swiss commodities trading group Glencore held the majority of shares. In 2011, production in Schwarzheide was discontinued and the plant was sold to Zeppoil (Spolchemie) in 2013; in the same year, Biopetrol Industries AG was deleted from the commercial register.
