About Biotech Energy
Biotech Energy Farm Holding GmbH (BEFH), headquartered in Hamburg, develops and operates conversion plants based on its own BIOTECH ENERGY TECHNOLOGY® process. In a novel circular process, protein-containing feed grain is processed into enhanced animal feed for ruminants; the resulting residual materials are converted into 2nd-generation bioethanol and bio-CO2. The feed produced can reduce the methane emissions of cattle by up to 90 %, while the bioethanol serves as a fuel component (E10 to E85, D95), as a raw material for bioplastics and as a basis for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Further product lines are fertilizers and raw materials for biodegradable plastics. Process development began in the early 2010s in cooperation with plant manufacturer GEA-Wiegand; the technology is registered as a utility model with the German Patent and Trademark Office. The first commercial plant (Phoenix 1) is planned in Romania; planned plant capacities are 60 kt to over 100 kt of bioethanol per year.
