About BOXBAY
BOXBAY is an international joint venture of DP World and SMS group and, with its High Bay Storage (HBS) system, offers a technology for container terminals that triples handling capacity and, for the same number of containers, requires only one third of the space of conventional storage systems. Instead of stacking containers directly on top of one another, BOXBAY places each container in an individual rack, so that every container is directly accessible. The underlying technology was originally developed by SMS group subsidiary AMOVA for the 24-hour handling of metal coils up to 50 tonnes in racks up to 50 metres high and was the first to be transferred to the port industry. Following a proof-of-concept facility at the Jebel Ali terminal in Dubai (trial operation from January 2021), the system is being marketed worldwide; reference projects are the Pusan Terminal (South Korea) and London Gateway. According to press reports, the main marketing office is located in Hilchenbach, Germany.

Quality & Operating Experience
During the proof-of-concept phase at the Jebel Ali terminal, functionality, performance, energy consumption and reliability (Mean Moves Between Failures, MMBF) were measured and verified under real operating conditions; by the end of June 2022, 150,000 container movements had been carried out.
