About the Schumacher Brewery
Brauerei Ferd. Schumacher GmbH & Co. KG is a traditional home brewery in downtown Düsseldorf and is considered the city's oldest home brewery. It brews Altbier specialties: the classic Schumacher Alt (4.6% vol.), the strong beer Schumacher Latzen, and the fruity 1838er, produced since 2013 with aroma hop varieties from Australia and Canada; plus an alcohol-free Alt. The beer is offered in swing-top bottles, in returnable bottles, and in oakwood barrels and plastic-coated stainless steel kegs of 5 to 50 liters. In 2009, around 30,000 hectoliters were produced. The Alt is served at the main premises on Oststraße, at the brewery taproom Im Goldenen Kessel in the old town, and at gastronomy partners in the surrounding area; since 2019 the brewery has been the Altbier partner of the Merkur Spiel-Arena. The family business is run by Gertrud Schnitzler and Nina Thea Ungermann.
