About Brauerei G. Schneider und Sohn
Brauerei G. Schneider und Sohn GmbH is a Bavarian beer brewer and distributor headquartered in Munich with its brewery in Kelheim. The company specializes in the production of wheat beer under the Schneider Weisse brand and was founded in 1872 by Georg Schneider I., who was the first commoner to receive from King Ludwig II the privilege of brewing wheat beer. Production follows the Bavarian Purity Law; hops come from the Hallertau region and barley from the Straubinger Gäuboden. With the Aventinus, introduced by Mathilde Schneider in 1907, the brewery brought Bavaria's first wheat doppelbock to market. Since 2020, the bottom-fermented Schneider's Helles has also been distributed under the Landbrauerei Georg Schneider und Sohn brand. With around 100 employees, annual output is approximately 250,000 hectoliters (as of 2006), of which around 25% is exported to 27 other countries. The brewery is a founding member of the Die Freien Brauer initiative.
