About the Ankerla – Brauerei Gasthof Ankerbräu
The Brauerei Gasthof Ankerbräu in Steinach in the Thuringian Forest is family-owned and can look back on a brewing tradition spanning 11 generations. In 1736, Johann Nicol Greiner was granted the certified right by Duke Friedrich Wilhelm of Saxe-Coburg and Meiningen to brew beer in Steinach. The historic brewery ceased operations in 2014 and is now used as a brewing museum; on 23 April 2016 – 500 years after the Reinheitsgebot (German Beer Purity Law) – the new craft beer brewery opened with its own brewhouse. The beers are brewed and bottled by hand and sold in the inn as well as online. The offering includes guided tours of both breweries, a brewing museum, a beer bath in the brewhouse and, since January 2019, four holiday apartments. The location is Steinbächlein 6a in 96523 Steinach.
