About Brauerei Karg

Brauerei Karg GmbH & Co. KG is a family-run brewery on the Untermarkt in Murnau am Staffelsee (Upper Bavaria). It was founded in 1912 by Andreas Karg as a takeover of the Hirschvogel wheat beer brewery, established in 1899, and has since been run by the Schubert family in its fourth generation. Since 1980, the focus of production has been on top-fermenting wheat beers, including Helles Weißbier, Dunkles Weißbier, Leichtes Weißbier, the finely hopped Staffelsee Gold as well as seasonal beers such as Weizenbock and IPA. Since 2021, a bottom-fermenting beer, Murnauer Hell, has been brewed again. Annual output amounts to around 10,000 hectolitres. Alongside the brewery, the family operates the Karg Bräustüberl on the Untermarkt with Bavarian cuisine, and since 2018 a show brewery at the Glentleiten open-air museum, and distributes the beers via the gastronomy and retail sectors as well as an online shop through the partner Biershop Bayern.
