The Distillery
Brennerei Salzgeber is a family business in the historic Fugger market town of Babenhausen in Lower Allgäu which, according to its own account, can look back on a family tradition dating back to 1576. It produces varietal fruit brandies such as quince brandy, kirschwasser, apricot brandy and Williams Christ pear brandy, as well as specialty brandies, a wide selection of liqueurs and spirits such as August Gin, vodka specialties and Svevian Single Malt Whisky. According to the company, the products are made with mindful craftsmanship throughout the entire production process; for some products, such as the rowanberry brandy, maturation takes place in barrique barrels. For its own fruit brandies, the business purchases or trades for fully ripe quinces from suppliers. The offering includes a distillery shop in Babenhausen, shipping of spirits, and on-site cocktail workshops. In addition, the distillery operates a winery/cider mill, as indicated by the website title “Brennerei – Kelterei” (Distillery – Cider Mill).
