About the Office for Corrosion Protection Technology

The Office for Corrosion Protection Technology of Dipl. Ing. Sven Svoboda in Wesseling provides services in coating inspection and quality assurance in industrial corrosion protection. The range of services covers inspections before, during and after coating application, dry film thickness measurement (DFT), adhesion testing to ASTM D4541 and D3359, salt contamination testing according to the Bresle method, as well as pinhole and holiday testing. In addition, non-destructive testing methods (VT, MT, PT, ET, UT), failure analyses, maintenance inspections as well as the development of coating specifications, project planning and quality assurance programmes are offered. The work is performed under FROSIO Level III certification according to the Norwegian standard NS 476 (certificate no. 9217). Clients include companies such as ABB, Steuler, Phönix Armaturen, Center Tech and Braskem, predominantly in Europe. The owner is a state-certified corrosion protection technician, graduate engineer and qualified planner for the maintenance of concrete structural components, and brings over 28 years of professional experience across more than 100 completed projects.

Testing methods and materials examined

VT

Visual Testing

Inspection with the naked eye or magnifying glasses up to 20x magnification to detect surface defects.

MT

Magnetic Testing

Detects pores, cracks and inclusions at or just below the surface of ferromagnetic materials such as steel.

PT

Penetrant Testing

Reveals surface-breaking cracks on non-porous materials using dye or fluorescent penetrants.

ET

Eddy Current Testing

For electrically conductive materials; detects near-surface cracks and is used for coating thickness measurement.

UT

Ultrasonic Testing

Volumetric method for wall thickness measurement and depth location of material defects.

DFT

Dry Film Thickness Measurement

Magnetic and eddy current measurement with calibrated digital instruments for specification control.

Stahl

Steel and metallic materials

The main inspection objects are steel structures and metal components in plants, steel buildings and marine structures.
