Ice storage complete systems and heat pump systems for fossil-free heating and cooling supply
caldoa GmbH

Energy supply from a single source
caldoa GmbH, based in Friedrichshafen, develops and implements needs-based ice storage and heat pump systems for a fossil-free heating and cooling supply. The service portfolio includes demand analysis, energy concept planning, construction of ice storage and heat pump systems, automation with cloud-based control, a digital energy management system and operational management – all from a single source. The in-house developed, multi-source capable ice storage system uses renewable sources such as geothermal energy, ambient heat, waste heat and crystallisation energy. Ice storage units are available in sizes from 50 to 10,000 m³, and heat pumps cover outputs from 7 to 560 kW. The systems are implemented as standalone applications from approx. 100 kW heating output or in cold district heating networks (approx. 10 °C) for neighbourhoods, commercial and industrial applications – also for process cooling and year-round air conditioning. Target sectors include building services, district supply, commerce, industry, process cooling and ice sports.

Technologies and energy sources
Ice storage technology
Water ice storage units use crystallisation energy as a natural energy bonus and serve in summer as a cooling source for climate-friendly building cooling.
Heat pump technology (7–560 kW)
Heat pumps for efficient heating and cooling in standalone applications or network supply.
Cold district heating network
Network supply at approx. 10 °C for supplying entire neighbourhoods, including waste heat utilisation.
Automation and energy management
Cloud-based control with weather data integration for continuous optimisation and transparency in system operation.
