About Canaphos
Canaphos GmbH, based in Veitshöchheim near Würzburg, operates phosphorus recovery from mono-incinerated sewage sludge ashes. Using the thermochemical CANAPHOS process, sewage sludge ash is treated with sodium carbonate and the phosphorus it contains is converted into plant-available calcium sodium phosphate. The result is a marketable, low-contaminant fertilizer for agriculture or as a raw material for the fertilizer industry. The first CANAPHOS plant in Veitshöchheim is designed for a capacity of 15,000 t of sewage sludge ash per year. The company accepts ashes, analyzes them, carries out the thermochemical digestion and handles product development and marketing of the fertilizers. In addition, the secondary heat generated in the process can be fed back into local heating networks or industrial processes. Target groups are municipalities, special-purpose associations, operators of mono-incineration plants and waste management companies that must feed sewage sludge ashes into phosphorus recovery in a legally compliant manner from 2029.
