About Capandji
Capandji is a Berlin deep-tech startup spun out of the Berlin University of Technology (BHT). The company develops the Capandji Hand, an anthropomorphic robotic hand whose functionality is modelled on the human hand. The hand is named after the French orthopaedic surgeon and anatomy researcher Adalbert Ibrahim Kapandji. Unlike conventional robotic grippers, the Capandji Hand does not work rigidly but compliantly: it reacts passively to its environment, enabling robust grasping and object handling. Sensors capture the state of the elastic tendons and the position of the joints, allowing contact forces to be estimated. In addition to the hand itself, Capandji offers system integration, e.g. the connection to robotic arms, camera systems and force/torque sensors, as well as software for robot control, perception and communication based on ROS 2. As part of a consortium with BHT and TU Berlin, the company is applying for the SPRIND "Next Frontier Robotics Challenge".
