Friedrich Carl Hessel founds a goods trading business for sand and alumina in Nerchau (forerunner of the paint factory).
- 1852
Foundation of the paint factory by the brothers Friedrich and Carl Hessel.
- 1891
Conversion into Farbenwerke Friedrich & Carl Hessel AG; over 150 employees, Saxony's largest paint production.

Expropriation; the Vereinigte Farben- und Lackfabriken Nerchau (VeFaLaN) is formed.
