About us
Since 1997, CARBONIT Filtertechnik GmbH has been developing and producing filter elements for drinking water treatment in Salzwedel, Saxony-Anhalt. The family-owned company, which belongs to the Westa Group based in Gütersloh, specializes in the manufacture of sintered activated carbon block filters (monoblock) made predominantly from coconut shell activated carbon. The portfolio includes filter cartridges (NFP, IFP, WFP, GFP, ILP, RFP) with filtration finenesses from 0.4 µm to 32 µm, combined cartridges with hollow fiber membranes, ion exchange resins and patented absorber resin (iA technology), as well as filter devices ranging from countertop and under-sink filters to whole-house entry filters. The activated carbon is refined using a proprietary process; all raw materials are residue-tested and comply with European standards. The products are used in private households as well as in the food industry, pharmaceutical production, medical technology, the beverage industry and mobile water supply (ships, trains, aircraft, motorhomes). Their effectiveness is confirmed by reports from renowned institutes; series production is monitored in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

Materials and Processes
Sintered activated carbon (monoblock)
Core material of the block filter cartridges with high adsorption capacity and filtration finenesses down to 0.4 µm.
Activated carbon from coconut shells
Used exclusively for ILP and other cartridges due to its special properties.
Absorber resin (iA technology, type M)
Patented absorber resin for selective removal of heavy metals and PFAS in combination cartridges.
Hollow fiber membranes (capillary membranes)
For combined filter cartridges for fine and membrane filtration.
Ion exchange resins
For removal of limescale, nitrate, fluoride and arsenic in special cartridges.
Polypropylene (PP)
Housing material of the filter devices, e.g. SANUNO Grande; also used as a bio-based plastic for cartridge caps.
Stainless steel
Water channels and housing variants such as SANUNO inox and GO travel inox.
Virus fleece
For combined cartridges in well water and outdoor applications.
