About CARBURA
CARBURA was founded in 1932 as a self-help organisation of importers of liquid motor and heating fuels for the purpose of compulsory stockpiling. It is a private-law association within the meaning of the Swiss Civil Code, whose statutes are approved by the federal government and which is subject to the supreme supervision of the Federal Office for National Economic Supply (BWL). Its main tasks include carrying out compulsory stockpiling of petroleum products, issuing general import licences (GEB A, B, C), levying and administering guarantee fund contributions, disbursing compensation to compulsory stockpile keepers, and monitoring the stockpiling obligation. Members are all importers of petroleum products with imports of more than 3'000 m³ per year as well as substitute or joint compulsory stockpile keepers of petroleum products; since 1 May 2019, first-time marketers of liquid motor and heating fuels manufactured or processed in Switzerland, in particular production facilities for biogenic fuels, have also been subject to the stockpiling obligation. In addition, CARBURA participates in matters of national economic supply and within the framework of the International Energy Agency (IEA). The head office in Zurich has 20 staff members.
