About CATS
CATS Crane Automation Technology Services GmbH, based in Wendelstein near Nuremberg, specializes in engineering services relating to load sway control and crane automation. The company was founded in 2007 by Dipl.-Ing. Wolfgang Wichner as a GmbH & Co. KG, who also developed and brought to market the OptiSway® sway control and crane automation system. The system has been sold more than 70 times and is characterized by high positioning accuracy combined with high travel dynamics thanks to a unique torque profile optimization. In 2023, Wichner sold the OptiSway® system to KONECRANES, which has since taken over sales, delivery, commissioning and service; the present CATS GmbH is the legal successor to the dissolved GmbH & Co. KG. Today, CATS GmbH offers consulting on load sway control and crane automation including associated sensor technology, modifications of existing systems, cycle-time simulations with digital twins, verification of drive power ratings, training for technicians and crane operators, as well as the investigation of problem cases.
