About Ceramer GmbH

Ceramer GmbH produces high-performance polymers and additives based on polyphenylenesulfone (PPSO2), offered as a fine, light-beige powder in various particle sizes (Ceramer 15, 20, 60 and Ceramer Plus 20) as well as compression-molded semi-finished products and molded parts. The material has no melting range and is therefore processed by hot pressing and sintering technology; it is also used as an additive for fluoropolymers (PTFE) and engineering thermoplastics such as LCP, PSU, PEEK, PAI, POM, PPS, PI, PEI and polyester as well as for thermosets. Further applications include coatings applied by flame spraying (thermal spraying) and ultra-pure grades for semiconductor and electronics applications. Ceramer and Ceramer Plus are characterized by high thermal stability (above 460 °C and 500 °C respectively), near-universal chemical resistance, inherent flame retardancy, metallizability and FDA approval for food contact. The company was founded in 2003 by Ticona (now Celanese), Prof. Hans-Werner Schmidt (University of Bayreuth) and Nikolaus Helbig and is located at the New Materials Competence Center in Bayreuth. Ceramer holds an exclusive license to the patents of the product line, which was developed by Hoechst AG and introduced by Ticona in 1998.
