About CircuLab AI
CircuLab AI develops AI-based systems for the detection, sorting and cell disassembly of lithium-ion batteries at the front end of the battery recycling process. The portfolio comprises three modules: SentryCell™ detects the battery chemistry at the input using multi-modal XRF sensing and computer vision while simultaneously checking for leaks, vapors and swollen cells. SortCell™ classifies batteries in real time and routes them into five output lanes, including NMC direct recycle, LFP direct recycle, second-life cells with a high state of health, mixed-chemistry hydrometallurgy and isolated damaged cells. RecycleCell™ performs AI-supported, adaptive robotic cell disassembly and extracts cathode sheets intact in order to preserve the crystal structure for direct recycling. The chemistries handled include LFP, NMC, NCA and NiMH; output fractions include black mass, copper and aluminum fractions as well as cobalt and nickel. The company is in active development, is seeking pilot partners for 2026 and has been admitted to the MIT CSAIL Startup Connect Program. No location is given on the website.

Processes and Materials
LFP (lithium iron phosphate)
Detection, sorting and direct recycling; conventional processes achieve almost no material value here.
NMC (nickel manganese cobalt)
Chemistry-level detection and routing into the NMC direct recycle lane.
NCA (nickel cobalt aluminum)
Detection and classification at the input for forwarding to suitable recycling paths.
NiMH (nickel metal hydride)
Chemistry-level detection using XRF and computer vision.
Cobalt
Valuable material fraction from cell disassembly.
Nickel
Valuable material fraction from cell disassembly.
Copper (anode/housing fractions)
Are not contaminated by chemistry-separated disassembly and retain premium scrap value.
Aluminum (cathode/housing fractions)
Are not contaminated by chemistry-separated disassembly and retain premium scrap value.
Black Mass
Input material of conventional recycling routes that can be routed to higher-value processes through sorted feed.
