Citizen Watch Co., Ltd. (シチズン時計株式会社) was founded in 1918 as 尚工舎時計研究所 and today operates as the parent company of the Citizen Group, listed on the Prime Market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange (Code 7762). As an integrated manufacturing company (manufactory), the company produces watch movements and watch components ranging from precision machining of small parts to the assembly of finished watches, and distributes them in around 140 countries. Another pillar is the construction of CNC automatic lathes: since 1936, machine tools have been produced that are based on the precision technology of watch part manufacturing and provide machining solutions, among others, for the automotive, medical technology, and IT/semiconductor industries. The group company Citizen Machinery Co., Ltd. develops and sells these machines, most recently in 2025 the Miyano BNE-65ATC model with simultaneous 5-axis machining and ATC. In addition to the core areas of watches and machine tools, the group comprises the electronic components and electronic devices segments.
