About ALLPLAS – Floating balls since 1963
ALLPLAS is a division of COATING PRODUCTS OHZ e.K. based in Osterholz-Scharmbeck near Bremen and manufactures hollow plastic floating balls for covering liquid surfaces. The product range includes balls made of polypropylene (PP), HDPE, LDPE and PVDF in diameters from 7.5 mm to 150 mm. The balls are applied to the liquid surface, where they self-arrange into a uniform layer covering 91 % of the surface. This reduces evaporation losses by up to 90 %, lowers heat losses, reduces chemical carry-over and minimizes oxygen uptake in feed water by 63 % (studies by Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences). The floating balls are used, among other applications, in electroplating, the chemical and food industries, power plants, wastewater treatment plants and agriculture, as well as water-filled Bird Balls on airport fire-fighting ponds. The company was founded in 1963 as RITTER CHEMIE, employs 7 staff and supplies customers in Germany, Europe and worldwide.

Materials and Temperature Use
PP (Polypropylene)
Reliable all-rounder for electroplating, power plants and laboratory baths, continuous use up to 100 °C, short-term up to 140 °C.
HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene)
For laboratory applications 70–80 °C, heavy balls and water-filled Bird Balls (100 mm, 240 g) for pond covers.
LDPE (Low-Density Polyethylene)
Used as a light floating ball, e.g. for water level indicators in red.
PVDF (Polyvinylidene fluoride)
Especially chemically resistant, for covering highly concentrated acid baths.

History
- 1963
Start of production and distribution of plastic floating balls by RITTER CHEMIE in September 1963; first customers from electroplating (chrome baths, PP 45 mm).
- 1970
Boom driven by the oil crisis – floating balls in high demand as a simple, efficient cover for liquid surfaces to save energy.
- 2019
Since October 2019, the ALLPLAS floating balls have been part of COATING PRODUCTS (a division of Coating Products OHZ e.K.).
- 2022
Switch to green electricity.
- 2024
Publication of the Code of Conduct (LkSG, CSR, EcoVadis participation), dated 04.06.2024.
