About COMET Schleiftechnik
Comet Schleiftechnik GmbH manufactures high-performance grinding wheels and other precision grinding tools on more than 15,000 m² of company premises in St. Ingbert. Founded in 1949, the owner-managed family company produces vitrified and resin-bonded grinding wheels in fused alumina, sintered alumina and silicon carbide, CBN and diamond grinding wheels in resin, hybrid, metal, vitrified and electroplated bonds, as well as dressing tools and diamond/CBN cutting tools. Production includes mixing with electronic weighing systems, pressing on NC-controlled presses with online data recording, firing of vitrified grinding bodies at 1000–1300 °C in kilns with electronic firing-profile control, CNC finishing and comprehensive final inspection. Customers come from the automotive industry, machinery and plant engineering, aerospace, tool manufacturers and plastics processing companies. With an export share of over 60 %, COMET supplies customers worldwide and, in addition to its stock program, offers express manufacturing, reworking, regrinding service and on-site process optimization.

Materials & Processes
Fused alumina
Abrasive for vitrified and resin-bonded grinding wheels for soft and hardened steels.
Sintered alumina
Abrasive for high-load vitrified grinding wheels.
Silicon carbide
Abrasive for wheels for HSS steels, non-ferrous metals, aluminium, copper and stainless steel materials.
CBN (cubic boron nitride)
Superhard abrasive for hardened long-chipping steels from approx. 45 HRC.
Diamond (natural diamond, PCD, MKD, CVD)
Grinding and dressing material for carbide, ceramics, glass, stone and short-chipping materials.
Resin bond
Most common bond for diamond and CBN wheels with good free-cutting behaviour and low heat generation.
Hybrid bond
High-performance bond for deep grinding, e.g. on carbide (M23) and HSS (M91).
Metal bond
Bronze-based bond with good edge and profile retention for ceramics, glass, stone and concrete.
Vitrified bond
Mainly with CBN grit for long-chipping materials, easy to profile, large-series production.
Electroplated bond
Single-layer electroplated diamond/CBN tools, can be re-coated multiple times.
Carbide
Substrate and cutting material for diamond and CBN cutting tools such as indexable inserts.
GRP/CFRP
Materials machinable with diamond and CBN grinding wheels.
