COMUNA-metall was founded in 1980 and has focused since 1984 on the production, maintenance, servicing and operation of gas-engine combined heat and power (CHP) units. The company manufactures CHP modules in the 2726 series (50 kW electrical) and 5450 series (100–112 kW electrical) with robust gas engines, water-cooled generators, thermo-acoustic enclosures and downstream condensing exhaust gas heat exchangers. The units support flexible fuels such as natural gas, propane, sewage gas and biogas and achieve efficiencies of up to 96%. The service portfolio includes planning and consulting, economic feasibility analysis, construction, permitting matters, application for funding, as well as service covering fault clearance, repairs by its own skilled staff, spare parts service and software maintenance of control programs. Customers include energy utilities, companies with high electricity and heat demand, and public facilities such as school centers, clinics and swimming pools. Over 1,000 projects have been implemented; the company employs more than 100 staff.
