About the Consorzio

The Consorzio Depurazione Acque Biasca e dintorni is a purpose association (consorzio) based in Biasca in the canton of Ticino. Its purpose is to conduct all activities and infrastructures for wastewater treatment of the connected municipalities. The IDA wastewater treatment plant in the Alla Giustizia zone south of Biasca is operated; wastewater treatment takes place in three stages: mechanical (screens, circular grit chamber, primary clarification), biological (activated sludge process with aeration, secondary clarification) and chemical (dosed precipitation of dissolved phosphorus). The treated water is discharged into the Ticino; the sewage sludge is dewatered, digested and partially reused. The catchment area includes Biasca, Riviera, Iragna, Pollegio, Personico, Giornico, Serravalle, Acquarossa and Faido. In addition, the consorzio offers tours and awareness programs for schools and groups.
