Covestro Deutschland AG, headquartered in Leverkusen, is a manufacturer of high-performance polymers and specialty films. The Specialty Films business unit comprises polycarbonate films (Makrofol®), PC blend films (Bayfol®), thermoplastic polyurethane films (Platilon®, Dureflex®), ready-to-use adhesive films (Pontacol®) as well as monopolymeric substrates for security printing (Autentium®, Certevo®). Among other methods, the films are produced in-house by extrusion down to a thickness of 15 µm. Application fields include automotive (interior, lighting, Film Insert Molding, In-Mold Electronics), construction and architecture, energy, electronics, security printing, printed electronics, healthcare, textile and sports, as well as protection and security – from holographic displays (Bayfol® HX) and impact-resistant laminated glass produced in autoclave processes to TPU film composites for active lighting in police vests. Covestro provides technical support to customers through a Technical Competence Center with prototyping, CAE simulation of surface effects and processing technology support (FIM, thermoforming, laminating, autoclaving, welding, die-cutting, printing). Part of the portfolio is partially bio-based, contains recycled content or is ISCC PLUS certified (CQ series).
