About DLM AG

Dampflokomotiv- und Maschinenfabrik DLM AG, based in Winterthur, is a Swiss company that separated from SLM in mid-2000 and, under the leadership of founding engineer Roger Waller, develops, builds new, modernizes and overhauls modern steam locomotives and steam engines. The modern steam concept includes DLM-system light-oil firing with smoke- and spark-free combustion, welded boilers with superheaters, maintenance-free roller bearings, electric preheating units, full insulation of boiler and cylinders, and one-person operation with remotely controlled steam engines. Its value-added activities include the construction of new rack steam locomotives, the conversion from coal to light-oil firing, the installation of remotely controlled marine steam engines, roller-bearing wheelset assemblies, steam storage technology for fireless locomotives, and the manufacture of pistons, piston rods and flat slide valves. Customers include tourism and museum railways, mountain railways, shipping companies and industrial enterprises at home and abroad, among them the Brienz-Rothorn-Bahn, the Schafbergbahn, the ÖBB, the RhB, the CGN, the BLS and the Puffing Billy Railway in Australia. For special excursion services, DLM operates its own steam locomotive 52 8055, comprehensively modernized in 1998/99.
