German Physiks – the path to the DDD driver
Since 1992, DDD-Manufactur GmbH has been manufacturing omnidirectional high-end loudspeakers under the German Physiks brand, based on the in-house developed DDD bending-wave driver. The driver uses a 0.15 mm-thin carbon fibre diaphragm which, via three operating modes (pistonic, bending wave, modal radiation), covers a frequency range typically from 200 Hz to 24 kHz and radiates uniformly through 360 degrees. The product range comprises eight loudspeaker models from the entry-level HRS-130 to the flagship Gaudi Mk III, the Emperor Extreme electronics series (preamplifiers, power amplifiers, Integrated Amplifier, DSP-X Crossover) as well as the Pion N3 power cable with 24k gold-plated contacts from Furutech. All electronics are fully developed and manufactured in Germany. Distribution is through a network of specialist dealers, traditionally with strong markets in the Far East. Headquarters and production are located in Maintal near Hanau.

Materials and Technologies
Carbon fibre (0.15 mm-thick sheet)
Diaphragm material of the DDD driver, optimised for thickness, elasticity, specific weight and flexural stiffness for the three operating modes.
Rubber (diaphragm suspension)
Semi-rigid elastic termination of the open diaphragm end at the chassis, limits the low-frequency excursion from approx. 200 Hz.
Gold (24k plating)
24k gold-plated contacts on IEC connectors and cables of the Pion power cables (Furutech components).

Additional services
Quality and Endurance Testing
In addition to measurements and listening tests, an extensive endurance test programme was initiated for the DDD driver to ensure reliability under the most demanding operating conditions. The electronics are designed for wide frequency response, low noise voltage, low distortion, high dynamic range and reliability.
