About ROCKWOOL

ROCKWOOL is a manufacturer of stone wool insulation materials and products, with the group headquartered in Denmark and listed on the Copenhagen stock exchange. Stone wool is made from volcanic basalt rock, dolomite, bauxite and recycled material: the raw materials are melted at temperatures above 1,500 °C, spun into fibres, bound with a binder, conditioned in the curing oven and cut to size. The product range includes insulation solutions for roofs, facades, ceilings, floors, interior walls, building services and fire protection systems such as Conlit, as well as products for marine and offshore, horticulture (Grodan), transport and water management. The group employs around 12,000 people in 40 countries and sells its products in over 120 countries. In Germany, the company has sites in Gladbeck, Flechtingen, Marktredwitz and Neuburg an der Donau.

Raw materials and manufacturing processes

Basalt

Basalt (volcanic rock)

Core raw material of stone wool, accounting for around 97 percent of the insulation products.

Dolomit

Dolomite

Rock as a component of the raw material mix for the melt.

Bauxit

Bauxite

Aluminium-rich rock added to the raw material mix.

Schlacke

Slag (by-product of steel production)

Recycled secondary raw material with high melting efficiency.

RW-Rezyklat

Recycled mineral wool

Internal wool waste is granulated and fed directly back into the spinning process.

Binder

Urea-modified phenolic resin (binder)

Pre-fabricated, not classified as hazardous binding agent that glues the fibres together and cures during curing.

Kohle

Coal

Fuel used to achieve the required melting temperature in the furnace.

Steinwolle

Stone wool

Non-combustible, recyclable fibre insulation for thermal, fire, acoustic and moisture protection.
