About the Association

The German Hospice and Palliative Care Association (DHPV) was founded in 1992 as a non-profit association under the name Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft Hospiz e.V. and is the national advocacy body of the hospice movement and of hospice and palliative care facilities in Germany. As the umbrella association of the 16 regional state associations as well as further supra-regional organisations, it represents more than 1,290 hospice and palliative care services and facilities in which over 141,500 people are engaged on a voluntary and full-time basis. Its key areas of work include advocacy in legislation and politics, the promotion and strengthening of regional hospice and palliative care networks, the development of quality standards, and support for education and research. Together with the Federal Medical Association (Bundesärztekammer) and the German Society for Palliative Medicine, the DHPV is the custodian of the Charter for the Care of the Critically Ill and Dying in Germany, and is a member of the European Association for Palliative Care (EAPC). The head office is located in Berlin.
