About Distelhäuser Brewery

Distelhäuser Brauerei Ernst Bauer GmbH & Co. KG is a mid-sized, family-run brewery in the Distelhausen district of Tauberbischofsheim in the Tauber Valley region. The company was founded in 1811 as Brauerei Wohmann; since 1876 it has been owned by the Bauer family and is now run by Moritz Bauer in the seventh generation. The site on the banks of the Tauber river, directly on the Romantic Road, includes the brewhouse, the filling plant, the Distelhäuser Brauhaus tavern and the Alte Füllerei event center. Brewing according to the German Purity Law of 1516, the brewery produces more than 14 beer varieties, including Pilsner, wheat beer, country beer, Märzen, Export, Helles, festival beer, winter bock as well as non-alcoholic beers and Radler shandies; since 2024 the Distel Strolch lemonade line has also been offered. The raw materials barley, wheat, spelt and hops come predominantly from the region, and the brewing water comes from the brewery's own well. Annual output in 2015 was around 185,000 hectoliters; the distribution area covers Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria and Hesse. Since 2014 the brewery has been a member of Slow Brewing e.V. and was named Brewery of the Year by the DLG in 2009 and 2014.
