About Dortmunder Actien-Brauerei

Dortmunder Actien-Brauerei (DAB) was founded in 1868 as the beer brewery Bier-Brauerei Herberz & Cie. and is today the last brewery in Dortmund. The company produces bottom-fermented beers, including the Dortmunder Export invented there as well as the brands DAB, Hansa, Kronen, Hövels, Brinkhoff's, Schöfferhofer and Clausthaler. Production comprises brewing by bottom-fermentation, storage and filling into returnable bottles and kegs; a bottle filling line fills 80,000 returnable bottles per hour. On the 100,000 m² plant site on Steigerstraße, the former Hansa site, one of the most modern breweries in Europe was commissioned in 1983; capacity was expanded in 1997 to 4 million hl per year. As early as 1881, a refrigeration machine from Carl von Linde was in use, and in 1893 DAB established a chemical-bacteriological laboratory as one of the first German breweries. The company has been exporting since 1879 and today belongs to the Radeberger Group (Oetker Group). Since 2024, DAB has been the official international beer partner of Borussia Dortmund.
